It starts with a sudden fever, weakness, muscle pain and a sore throat. Later people that are ill will vomit, have diarrhea and some people will bleed inside and outside their body. It is difficult for doctors to know if someone has Ebola for up to 3 weeks, so it’s very easy for people not to know they have the illness or not. People can catch Ebola by touching the blood, or fluids from animals or other people that have the virus. Even if someone has recovered from Ebola, they can give other people the virus for up to seven weeks after.Some ways to keep yourself safe are by not touching anything that is shared in public bathrooms such as towels. If on public transportation, face masks can help protect you from Ebola in the same way they protect you from the cold virus. Any places, clothing, or bedding that have been touched by people with Ebola could also cause people to catch the virus, so one of the best ways to protect yourself is to wash your hands and to keep your body clean.If someone does catch Ebola, they should not go outside and should call 119 to ask for help. The earlier it is found, the better chance the person has to get better. Currently a little over half of the people who catch the virus die and there is no vaccine yet. The US and China are both working on their own vaccines and hope to have something that can be used to stop the virus as soon as possible.
