(B)Clinical staging guides the treatment of squamous cell car- cinoma. Most lip vermilion carcinomas are detected at an early stage and treated by surgical excision (typically a wedge resection) with excellent results. In contrast, advanced cases may be treated by definitive radiation therapy or combined chemoradiation therapy.
