Passage#2    George Orwell is the pseudonym of Eric Blaire (1903-1950). Born in Bengal, India, he was broughtup in England and educated at Eton. He served five years as a British policeman in Burma, with agrowing disgust for the goals and values of British imperialism, before returning to England to become a 36, he fought with the Loyalists in the Spanish Civil War. Orwell is best known for AnimalFarm (1945) and 1984 (1949), novels that reflect his hatred of totalitarianism and his sympathy for theoppressed.
