(28-30)Do you know that the first high-heeled shoes were worn by a man, not a woman? The high-heeled shoes weredesigned for King Louis XIV of France. The king often felt embarrassed because he was very short. So he asked hisshoe-maker to make a pair of shoes with very high heels. Other men and women soon followed, and wearinghigh-heeled shoes became a way to show off. Later, men stopped wearing high-heeled shoes, but women keptwearing them. In fact, some shoes got too high for those women to walk in. They needed to have other people to helpthem move around. So wearing high-heeled shoes became a way for women to show other people they were rich.
