【評論內容】Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) Dawson Disease, Dawson encephalitis, and measles encephalitis is a rare and chronic form of progressive brain inflammation caused by a persistent infection with measles virus [1] No cure for SSPE exists and the condition is often fatal. However, SSPE can be managed by medication if treatment is started at an early stage. Much of the work on SSPE has been performed by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).

【評論內容】亞急性硬化性全腦炎（SSPE）是一種持續性的麻疹病毒感染。在腦組織中已由電子顯微鏡證實有麻疹病毒，並已在腦活檢中分離出此病毒，用熒光抗體技術已在腦組織中發現麻疹抗原。已有報道SSPE發生於無自然麻疹病史但曾接受麻疹疫苗的兒童。其中有些病例可能因出生后第1年內曾患隱性麻疹所致。
