Peoplespend a lot of money trying to look younger than they are. They buyspecial creams and lotions. The makers of these products say thatthey can slow down the aging process(老化過程).All people have to do is apply(敷)them on their faces, and they will soon look younger. New researchshows, however, that there is no reason to believe this.
Aboutfifty years ago, it was suggested that aging was caused by specialforms of oxygen called free radicals. Companies have developedproducts that contain chemicals known as antioxidants, such asvitamins. These are supposed to cope with(對付)theeffects of free radicals. But a recent study has found thatantioxidants have little or no effect on aging. Moreover, using themtoo often could make people sick.
Researchersnow say that many anti-aging creams and vitamin supplements are awaste of money. They emphasize that people should not spend money oncreams and pills if they want to stay young-looking. Instead, theyshould concentrate (集中)on eating healthy foods in the right amounts and exercisingmoderately (適度的).Exercise is important to good health.
