In 2012, a team of Ukrainian scientists named Quadsquad won the Microsoft Imagine Cup by inventing Enable Talk, a device that can change sign language into spoken sound via(透過) a computer. This annual competition challenges inventors to solve the “world’s toughest problems.” Helping nearly 40 million people around the world who are speech or hearing impaired(受損的) to communicate certainly made the team deserved winners.       EnableTalk uses a pair of gloves connected to a computer by Bluetooth. It maps the user’s hand movements to create the text and currently runs at 90 percent accuracy. Quadsquad is also looking into the possibilities of making telephone calls with the same technology.       Best of all, the team projected that the gloves will only cost US$75 a pair to mass- produce. This is in contrast to some other similar products that are already on the market, which are significantly more expensive. Quadsquad needed plenty of money to improve the device’s accuracy. The US$25,000 that Quadsquad were awarded for winning the Imagine Cup would definitely go a long way toward this.
