A.MiepGies isn’t a name most people heardof. However, she played an importantpart in publishing oneof the world’s most famous diaries.MiepGies lived in Amsterdam in the 1940s. Sheworked for Anne Frank’sfather, OttoFrank.Shewas a friend of the family, too. TheFranks were Jewish.However, afterthe Nazis controlledtheircountry duringWorld War Ⅱ, being Jewish was a dangerous thing. In1942, the Frank family hidin a building.Forthe next two years, Miep Gies and her husband secretly brought theFranks food.In August 1944, someone told the Nazis about the Franks, and theywere arrested and sent to theconcentrationcamps. Ottowas the only member of the Frank family thatdidn’tdie in the concentration camp.Whenhe wentbackto Amsterdam after the war, Miep gave him Anne’s diary.AnneFrank:TheDiary of a Young Girlwaspublished in 1947. MiepGieslater wrote her own book about Anne.In it, she said that she wasn’t a hero,but she did something to tell us what thereal life in the war was.
