問題詳情

The weathermen use different words to tell us how sunny or how cloudy they think it will be. To choose which word to tell us, theyfirst count how much the clouds cover the sky. They look up at the sky they can see, and divide the sky in 8 parts. They call each partan okta. Then they count the clouds in the sky above them, but not the clouds that are see-through where you can see the sky behindthem. They don’t count those. Then they think, “If we put all the clouds beside each other, how many okta’s would the clouds cover? The number they come up with will help them decide which words they will use to say about the sky to us. If there are no clouds inthe sky, the weatherman will say it’s sunny. If there are 1 or 2 okta’s of clouds covering an area, then the weatherman will say it’smostly sunny. The weatherman might say it’s partly sunny or partly cloudy if there are 3, 4 or 5 okta’s of clouds covering an area. Ifthere are 6 or 7 okta’s of clouds covering an area, that is called mostly cloudy. If all 8 okta’s are covered with clouds, or at least 90%of the sky is covered with clouds, then they will say it is cloudy or perhaps overcast.
