問題詳情

(B) Hello, and welcome to my page. I’m Tina, and I’m a foreigner in Taiwan. I love to
travel and share my experiences with everyone! This time, I went to one of the biggest religious festivals in the world: the Dajia Mazu Pilgrimage. Millions of people participate
in it every year!
The journey starts in Dajia, Taichung and goes to Singang, Chiayi County and back
again. It covers about 350 kilometers and lasts nine days and eight nights. I didn’t do the
whole thing, though. I just started at the beginning at Dajia’s Zhenlan Temple and walked
to Yongan Temple in Changhua.
The purpose of the pilgrimage is to pay homage to the goddess Mazu. Pilgrims carry
a statue of her on a palanquin for the whole pilgrimage. It stops at about 100 temples.
Followers show their love of Mazu with the kneeling ritual. As the palanquin passes over
them, they kneel and bow. This means Mazu will bless them and bring them good luck.
Let’s talk about the food. Pilgrims must start eating only vegetarian food three days
before the pilgrimage begins. On the first half of the pilgrimage, only vegetarian food is
served. Along the way, local people offer free food, drinks, and places to shower. The
pilgrims can only start eating meat again on the return journey. I’m glad I got to see this
lively event in person!
