27-31        There are more than 20 species of land crabs living in Kenting’s Banana Bay (香蕉灣), so this area has become the world’s best-known land crab habitat. In general, autumn is the season__27__land crabs mate and get ready to lay eggs. At this time, many female land crabs will scrawl out of their comfort zones and get out on the roads__28__ lay their eggs in the sea.        In fact, this is a dangerous trip for them. A lot of speeding cars and trucks use these roads, so many female land crabs are crushed and killed before __29__the sea. Therefore, in 2000 the Kenting National Park Administration started to control the traffic along Highway No. 26. This year it started to try a new policy. It shut down a __30__ section of the highway between the 39.5 kilometer mark and the 41.5 kilometer mark. From August 6 to 8 and September 5 to 7, 2017, no vehicles were allowed on this part of the road between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., __31__emergency vehicles and local people’s scooters. The administration hoped that this new policy could better protect these creatures, greatly reducing their death rate out on the highway.
