問題詳情

二、
Sharon and Lily are two young painters. They work and live together in a village. One winter, Lily becomes very sick and weak. She just looks out the window and counts backward in bed. Lily says, “ When the last leaf on the tree falls,    I must go   , too.” Sharon doesn’t want to see that and asks the help from an old man, Peterson. He is a very kind man and agrees to help them.
That night, it rains so hard and the wind blows wildly. In the morning, Lily wakes and asks to see outside. When Sharon uncovers the window for her, they can see there’s still one leaf on the tree. They cannot believe this! Then, a few days pass and the leaf is still there. This makes Lily realize something. She wants to go on and doesn’t want to die anymore. She starts to eat and feels better after seeing this. Next day, there’s the news about Peterson’s death. He was freezing cold and passed away in his room. Someone else found a light and some paint under the last leaf.
