In 1921, White Castle opened its first hamburger restaurant, and changed the way the world ate. It was called White Castle because all its restaurants had towers which made them look like old-style white castles.White Castle restaurants served square-shaped hamburgers for only five cents. In 1932, they began to introduce the first fast-food coupons (折價券) to people. In addition, they also changed what mothers thought about fast food by giving them free burgers and taking them on tours of White Castle restaurants to show them the convenience of fast food. Later in 1949, they added five holes to the burgers to make them cook faster. That was how their famous "five-hole hamburgers" came from. Soon, they attracted a lot of customers and set many fast-food trends.Today, it’s McDonald’s that has stores in 118 countries and leads the fast-food market. To attract customers in different countries, McDonald’s tries to be the cheapest and offers a menu with variety that changes from country to country.
