關於物理治療服務內容，美國醫學研究院提出 6 個核心健康照護目標 (1) 安全的醫療(safe)→避免照護中危害到病人 (2) 即時的服務(timely)→減少等候的時間，避免具傷害性的延遲 (3) 有效用的處置(effective)→根據醫學知識，提供適當的服務 (4) 有效率的服務(efficient)→避免設備、醫療用品、意見或能力等資源的浪費 (5) 平等的就醫(equitable)→提供同品質的服務，不因性別、種族或社經階層而有不同 (6) 以病人為中心(patient centered)→依據病患個別偏好與需求，提供尊重及負責任的照護，並依其價值觀做臨床決策
