問題詳情

【B】Some students of DYSH are having a heated debate on euthanasia (mercy killing).  James: In my opinion, accepting euthanasia implies that some lives (such as those fatally sick) are worth less than others. But howcan we decide a person’s worth? Esther: On the contrary, I think euthanasia maintains humanity. Each person has the right to control his or her body and life and soshould be able to determine at what time, in what way and by whose hand he or she will die. Lucian: Well, I prefer to take a neutral stance on this issue, because there are too many factors involved here, such as religious belief, personal experience, or even political orientation. Carine: I have to side with Esther on this one. Human beings should be as free as possible, and those unnecessary restraints onhuman rights are a bad thing. Vegan: That’s not always true. Allowing euthanasia will greatly increase the risk of people who want to live being killed. The dangerof violating the right to life is so great that we should ban euthanasia even if it means violating the right to die.
