Reading B Donation (捐獻) has long been regarded as (被視為) a generous (慷慨的), kind deed(行為). But why do people donate? Much donation is closely related to religion (宗教), which promotes the idea ofaltruism (利他主義) － caring about the welfare (福祉) of others. “20 / 20” reported thatpeople in rural (農村的), religious (虔誠的) areas donated more than those who did notattend church regularly. Donation also has something to do with personal experience.Donors (捐獻者) themselves may be in the very same situation such as illness and poverty(貧困) and, thus, be more aware of others’ needs. It is said that this is why the poor tend todonate more than the rich. As many people claim that they feel good after doing somethinggood, the positive feeling is another factor. Interestingly, the claim is more than a vague (模糊的) statement. A study done by two professors of the University of Oregon scientificallyproved it by scanning people’s brains. Still some donate because they agree with thecharity’s (慈善公益) cause (理想) and they want to make a difference. People in thiscategory know well why the organization is asking for support and they hope to change theexisting problem. Undoubtedly, donors can promote their own image.
