The functions of the safety committee may include, butare not limited to:(a) cooperating with the master and the shipowner in theimplementation of the OSH policy and programme. Thecommittee should provide seafarers with a forum toinfluence OSH matters;(b) taking part in the planning, managing and coordinatingof safe and healthy working conditions on board. Thecommittee should take all preventive measures importantto OSH, including the mental well-being, of seafarers,and provide advice to resolve safety and health problems;(c) taking part in the investigation, identification and analysis of occupational accidents, injuries and diseases;(d) proposing and taking part in the implementation ofmeasures to prevent any recurrence, in consultation withthe master;(e) keeping up to date on OSH provisions for the protectionof seafarers;(f) contributing to defining principles for appropriate andnecessary training and instructions specific to on-boardworking conditions;(g) continuously inspecting the observance of safetyprocedures;(h) cooperating with any relevant occupational healthservice;(i) making representations and recommendations on behalfof the crew through the master to the shipowner; and(j) discussing and taking appropriate action in respectof any OSH matter affecting the crew, and evaluatingappropriate protective and safety equipment, includinglife-saving equipment.源自Guidelines for implementing the occupationalsafety and health provisions of the MaritimeLabour Convention, 2006, 5.2.
