A study in 2015 asked 1830 junior high school students inTaiwan what they wanted to be when they grew up. The resultsurprised many people. The answers from most of the studentswere not “doctor” or “lawyer,” but “cook,” “baker,” or “hairdresser”instead. These students have different dreams from their parents’when the parents were at their age.
         Sandra, a junior high school teacher, was interested in thestudy and decided to ask her 9th grade class the same question. Shegot a similar result from her 30 students. Nine students wanted tobe a cook, six wanted to be a baker, and six a hairdresser. Onlythree of the students dreamed to be a doctor, and another three alawyer. The other three loved some other jobs.
         Sandra was surprised that no one would like to be a teacher.She asked the class why they did not want to be a teacher. Manysaid Sandra had such a hard time with them almost every day thatthey did not want that kind of life.
