Hi Miranda, Jan. 18th
I just read A Speech by the Poorest President in theWorld today, and I want to share the book with you.
Mr. José Mujica, who was the President of Uruguay, said the real problem in the world was not about theenvironment, but about the way people live. For example,we spend less money on products that are low in quality. However, they break or stop working easily, but then we justgo out and buy them again. It’s a bad cycle.
Also, Mr. Mujica said people were never happy becausethey always wanted more than what they needed. For him, real happiness lies in family and friends who care more aboutwho you are than what you use or wear. Lastly, he saidproducts were made to make life easier, not harder.Because of all the things people want, they are forced towork all day long instead of spending time with real people.
After reading the book, I felt bad about myself because Iusually asked for more than I needed and took real happinessfor granted. I am not sure if everyone agrees with his ideas, but I’m going to pass them on to my family and friends likeyou. By doing so, I hope to make a difference. In the longrun, I hope more people find the true meaning of happinessand start living the right way.
Your best friend,
Claire
