(41 – 43)   People around the world are talking about Squid Game these days. It is a survival drama series created in South Korea. It was first broadcast on Netflix on September 17th, 2021. It has become a world hit since then and is Netflix’s most-watched series ever. It reached number one in 90 countries, including Taiwan and the United States. Netflix estimated that over 142 million people watched Squid Game in 28 days right after it came out.

Karen: Have you watched Squid Game?

Ryan: Squid Game? I’ve never played that game before. What game is that? Do I need to eat squid?

Karen:   It seems that you still live in the cave  . Squid Game is a South Korean series streaming on Netflix. Recently, it has become Netflix’s mostwatched non-English show. In Squid Game, a group of people are in a lot of debt. They all play children’s games to try to win a $40 million prize to get out of debt. However, the simple games could result in their death.

Ryan: Why is Squid Game so popular?

Karen: It shows the good and evil sides of human nature. Are you willing to sacrifice yourself and let others win the prize? Or, would you rather kill innocent people to get what you want?

Ryan: This is really a dilemma.
