(34 ~36)
On one evening in 1955, Rosa Parks, an African American, got on a bus and took a back seat. Later, more people came, andthe bus was full. The driver told Rosa and three other AfricanAmericans to give up their seats to white men. The three blackpeople did so, but Rosa didn’t because she believed it wasn’tfair to give up her seat.
Soon, the police came and arrested Rosa. People heardabout Rosa’s protest against the law. Many African Americanseven began to follow Rosa and worked together for their rights.
In those days, places had laws to keep black people andwhite people apart. Black people could only take seats for“people of color,” that was the back seats on the bus. Besides, they couldn’t use the same drinking fountains and the restroomsas white ones did. Thanks to Rosa Parks, some cities changedtheir laws.
