問題詳情

People have celebrated the World Elephant Day on August 12th since 2012. There are three main kinds of elephants in the world---the bush elephant and the forest elephant in Africa. And Asian elephant in Asia. Elephants in Africa usually have bigger ears than Asian ones because they can help them cool down in hot Africa.
For the size, African elephants are the heaviest land animals on earth. They weigh between 5,000 to 13,000 pounds and can grow up to 13 feet tall. The largest one on record is 24,000 pounds. An elephant 's trunk can be 400 pounds while their brains almost weigh 11 to 13 pounds.
As for their life span, most elephants can live up to 50 to 70 years. The oldest one on record is Lin Wang, which was 86 years old when it died at the Taipei Zoo.
It is interesting that the big animals which are slow, gentle and friendly are similar to people in some ways. They can understand music, have good memories, and experience emotions. When a member of the group die, they usually cover the dead body with leaves and earth, and they don't leave the dead alone. They feel sadness and stay with the dead for a while.
It is also interesting to know that it almost takes an elephant mom two years during the pregnant course. The baby elephant that weighs up to 260 pounds can stand and walk as soon as it is born.
