        Water costs money. In some places water is hardto get. What happens when a town has thisproblem? A small town in California found a happyanswer.
       Very little rain ever fell there. The town had nowater of its own. The water it used was brought infrom a river 300 miles away. As more people cameto live in the town, more water was needed. Nowwater had to be brought in from 600 miles away.All this cost a great deal of money.       The town made a plan. It found a way to cleanits "dirty" water. Once cleaned, the water wasreused in many ways. Five artificial lakes werebuilt. Here people could swim and fish and goboating. They could have picnics in their newparks. Farmers had more water for their crops. Newfactories could be built because they had thepromise of enough water.
