Its S(-)-enantiomer is both an a- and nonselective B blocker, whereas its R(+)-enantiomer is an a-blocker.CCarvedilol is extensively metabolized; phenol ringdemethylation and hydroxylation produce 3 metabolites with beta adrenergic blocking activity and (weak) vasodilating activity. Plasma concentrations of active metabolites are about 10% those of carvedilol.
