(39~42)    Almost a century ago, a tea farmer in Beipu, Hsinchu foundhis plants bitten by little green bugs. Though, he still decided touse the bitten leaves to make tea and brought it to the market.Surprisingly, it tasted sweeter and soon it was sold out. The pricewas much higher than usual. When he happily told hisneighbors, they thought he was bragging about it and few ofthem believe him. They named his tea Pengfong tea or“bragger’s tea”.    As it turns out, the insects’ bite is really important to thespecial aroma of Pengfong tea. When tea leaves were bitten, achemical reaction changes their flavor. Since the bugs are activein summer, it is the only time the tea can be harvested. Thus,the farmers stopped using pesticides to make sure the bugswon’t be hurt and do their job well. So, the tea is a healthychoice.    Every year during the harvest season, Beipu holds a festivalto show their respect to this special drink’s history.
