This is my first time volunteering at an organic farm in Taiwan. I have learnt a lot about organic farming principles, with the help of the farm owners: Vincent and Sally. Vincent is passionate about organic farming. During our stay at this farm, we have learnt about the basics of organic farming that includes soil management, crop rotation and weed management. From city dwellers who knew little about growing crops, we slowly gained a better understanding of organic farming with Vincent’s patient teaching. Sally is in charge of the sales and marketing, as well as the domestic affairs of the family. Whenever we were working hard at the fields, Sally never failed to take care of our welfare by reminding us to wear sunscreen. She also provided us with essential energy by whipping up delicious meals for us. During break times, Sally also shared her thoughts about the work at this farm, previous visitors at this farm and even the life experiences that she had gained in her previous job as a human resource manager. Together, Vincent and Sally often organize organic farming classes and farming tours to help educate the public about the ins and outs of it. We are deeply impressed by the amount of dedication and effort which they have invested into this organic farm: Vincent, for his extensive knowledge of organic farming; Sally, for her cheery attitude and ability to make you feel at home. With that, we would like to thank them for helping to make our stay in Taiwan an enjoyable and rewarding journey.
