          These days, no matter where I go, at any time, I see people “sliding” on their smartphones, even when someone is talking to them or they’re talking to each other. To be honest, it’s just not something I can stand.
          Last summer, I joined a group trip to Czech Republic and Austria, two of the most beautiful countries in Europe. Every time people sat down to have meals at the restaurant or to wait for the group leader to finish checking in at the hotel lobby, the first thing everyone else did was take out their cellphones and start sliding. I found I was the only person in the group   36.     didn’t do it. Very often I saw a family of four sitting at the dining table together, but each of them was sliding on their own cellphones! I just couldn’t help thinking, “Why are you guys taking this trip?” “Shouldn’t you take your eyes off the small screen and enjoy everything wonderful in front of you?” “After a 14-hour-long flight here, the very thing that you couldn’t wait to do was this?”
         I have been often asked, “Do you use LINE?” My answer is always, “No, I don’t. And I don’t think I ever   37.    ” Here in Taiwan, we‘re always following the trends from foreign countries. However, we usually just keep going while the other part of the world has already stopped to think more about it. I think that we   38.    to use technology more wisely.
