TraditionalChinese opera first came to Taiwan in 1624. However, it was more than300 years before opera became popular in Taiwan and began to developits own style. It was still popular 27 around 1970, andat that time the 28 in Taiwan began to grow fast. Theways of life in the countryside changed drastically. Most peoplemoved to the cities, and they had less time to enjoy the traditionalart. From then on, Taiwanese opera started to go down.
Inrecent years, Taiwanese opera started to become popular again. Manyopera groups in Taiwan have changed their ways of performance so thatthey can attract people’s 29 .
