Currently available devicesare mostly apparatus that can replace damaged sensory organs. Cochlear implants canrecover hearing for the deaf while retinal implants can help the blind see again. Bionictechnology will even be offering more elective augmentation for able-bodied people, atrend that may soon become global in the next decade.
