In October 2014, 17-year-old Malala Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She was the youngest winner of this prize in the history. How could she earn such a big honor?
Malala grew up in the northwest of Pakistan. Her father was an activist and spoke out against the Taliban. She followed his footsteps by also becoming an activist. She began to speak out on the equal rights of girls to an education.
By the time Malala was 15 years old, she was a famous human rights activist. She appeared in a documentary and wrote a blog about her life under the Taliban army. The Taliban knew Malala and her activities and made a death threat against her. One day on her way home from school, she was shot in her face.
Luckily, she did not die. Though she was badly hurt, she didn’t let this experience stop her. Today, she continues to speak out about women’s right and education for all. It is no wonder she was awarded this honorable prize.
