問題詳情

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a fast-food manager who can never yell at you? InAmerica, some employees do. But their boss is not a human. His name is HyperactiveBob, and he is a robotic manager. Bob was created after its inventor went to thedrive-through line at a fast-food restaurant to save time. But instead of receiving hismeal, he was told to pull over and wait for his order. And in the fast-food business,5time is money. To save both, Bob uses its computer vision system to scan the parking lot forincoming cars. Then Bob will calculate statistics depending on the time of the day andthe amount of prepared food, and issue orders for human employees to start cooking.Employees interact with Bob by the use of a touch-sensitive screen. They touch itwhen they accept a job and touch it again when they are done.So far, Bob has been used in 115 Zaxby’s restaurants in the U.S. Overall, theresults have been positive, saving an average of US$8,000 a year in food waste andseeing a lower turnover of employees. Customers are pleased, too, since smalleramounts of food are cooked more often, resulting in fresher food.
