問題詳情

<C> In March and April 2009, more than 1,000 cases of Swine Influenza (H1N1 more correctly) in humans were detected inMexico, and more than 80 deaths are suspected to have a connection with the virus. The Mexican fatalities are said to bemainly young adults, a hallmark of pandemic flu.Following a series of reports of isolated cases of swine flu,the firstannouncement of the outbreak in Mexico was documented on April 23, 2009. Swine flu is a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type A influenza virus that regularly causes outbreaks of influenza inpigs. While swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs, they do not normally infect humans. However, sporadic human infections with swine flu have occurred. Most commonly, these cases occur in persons with directexposure to pigs, for example, children near pigs at a fair or workers in the swine industry. Human-to-human transmission ofswine flu can also occur. This is thought to occur in the same way as seasonal flu occurs in people, which is mainlyperson-to-person transmission through coughing or sneezing of people infected with the influenza virus. People may becomeinfected by touching something with flu viruses on it and then touching their mouth or nose. The symptoms of swine flu in humans are expected to be similar to those of regular human seasonal flu and includefever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing. Some people with swine flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Now everyone is concerned with the question, “Can people catch swine flu from eating pork?” The answer is no. Swineflu viruses are not transmitted by food. You can not get swine flu from eating pork or pork products. Eating properly handledand cooked pork and pork products is safe. One suggestion to prevent infection by the virus includes frequent washing of hands with soap and water or withalcohol-based hand cleaners, especially after being out in public. People should avoid touching their mouths, noses or eyeswith their hands unless they have washed their hands. If people do cough, they should either cough into a tissue and throw itin the garbage immediately, cough into their elbows, or, if they cough in their hands, they should wash their handsimmediately.
