【3.】                                              The lesson of the Cocoon        A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a smallopening appeared. He sat and watched it for several hours as itworked hard to force its body through that little hole. Then itseemed to stop. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could. So the man took a pair of scissors and cut it open. The butterflythen came out easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.        The man kept watching it because he hoped that, at anymoment, the wings would enlarge and expand so that they couldsupport the body, which would contract in time. Neitherhappened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawlingaround with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never wasable to fly.        The man was kind and eager to help. What he did notunderstand was that the butterfly needed the struggle to getthrough the small hole of the cocoon. It was God’s way offorcing fluid from the body into the butterfly’s wings so that itwould be ready for flight once it got out to get its freedom.Sometimes struggles are just what we need in our life. If Godallowed us to go through our life without any difficulties, wewould gain nothing. We would not be as strong as we could havebeen; we would never be able to fly.
