When we ask people about London, what comes to mind first?Big Ben is usually the No.1 answer. Here are some fun factsabout it.         Taiwanese people call this giant bell inside Parliament’sfamous clock tower “ Da-Ben-Chung”. “Ben” sounds like“ clumsy” in Chinese. But is it true that Big Ben isn’t smart at all? Many English people don’t think so. The bell has worked hardfor the past 157 years and always rung on time. In 2012, BigBen got its new name—the Elizabeth Tower. That’s becauseEnglish people wanted to honor Queen Elizabeth and named itafter her.          However, it stopped making any sound in August, 2017 andwon’t ring again until 2021. Why? The ringing was stopped tolet the workers safely clean and fix the clock. Steve Jaggs, theclock keeper, said, ”It’s important to fix this 160-year-old clock. Many repairs are needed to make it modern and safe. Also, wehave to make sure the clock can keep working for a long time.’’After the repair work is finished, it’ll still tell time correctly butring only at special times like New Year’s Eve.
