There is no doubt that online shopping plays an important role in our everyday life. People have bought different sorts of goods online for ten years. The following two pie charts show the changes of the percentages (%) of online shopping across different kinds of sales in New Zealand in 2008 and 2018. It’s clear that the percentage of what people shop for online shows a significant change over the past 10 years.
In chart 1, we can see that the travel business accounted for the most of online sales in 2008. At the same time, the clothing business accounted for the second most, 24 %, of the online sales. However, it was interesting to know that the book business shared the least percentage, which is only 19%, of the online sales in New Zealand.
In chart 2, the percentage of travel business had dropped sharply to 19 % in 2018. As an increasing number of people chose to watch movies or listen to music on the Net, the film and music business accounted for the second most of the online shopping. Interestingly, online sales of books grew the most among all of the business types. There was nothing to do with if people were interested in reading. It may be because more and more people got books online. They might download e-books or buy books through Internet because of its convenience. Many people in New Zealand worried that more and more bookstore shopkeepers would close their shops because of the increase in books shop online. Besides, many people wondered why there were fewer and fewer people book trips through Internet, which made some researchers decide to do another study to figure out the problem.
