問題詳情

六、 閱讀測驗
Languages change with time and the world, andEnglish does, too. New words are borrowed from otherlanguages. About 900 years ago, there were greatchanges in England. A great many words were borrowedinto English from French. About 500 years ago, therewas another great change. This time it was a change inpronunciation, but the spelling was not much changed.English words are spelled quite the same as they were inthose days. The spelling showed how words were spokenat that time. It does not tell us much about thepronunciation of words today. For example, the letters ghin the word night show us nothing about how it is spokennow. That’s why students find English spelling soconfusing.
