(A) Built at harbor entrances or on dangerous stretches of coastline, lighthouses would alert sailors to the approaching danger as well as guide ships home. 
(B) Equipped with special lens and lamps, a light in France is said to be the most powerful one in the world. 
(C) Before such an invention, sailors were guided back to the harbor with friends building fires on hilltops.
(D) In fact, it’s part lighthouse, part church, and even holds memorials for those lost at sea.
