問題詳情
Tom worked as a waiter at a restaurant. One day, an old couple came into the restaurant. They were in ragged clothes and looked tired. It seemed they had not eaten anything for days. No waiters wanted to serve them except Tom. He was nice and very respectful to them, just as if they were his parents. When they had finished their meal, they couldn’t find any money. But Tom was so kind as to pay the bill for them, though it meant he could only afford(負擔) to eat the cheapest bread for the rest of the month. Two months later, he received a fifty-thousand-dollar check as well as a note on which were the following words: “Thanks for your kindness and the wonderful service you offered us when we dined at your restaurant two months ago.” With the money, Tom was able to start his own business. Ten years later he became very successful, running over 100 restaurants in many parts of the world.
