問題詳情
Many years ago, when Christmas time was coming, a small ship went across the Atlantic Ocean. The ship brought many gifts for people in Europe. Among the gifts were two pigeons from New York. One of the workers in the engine room was fond of pigeons and took care of them. When he was not busy, he gave them food and water every day. A few days after the ship left New York, a great storm came up and the ship sailed here and there in the sea. During the storm the worker did not forget about his pigeons. He went down and found their bird cage on the floor. But the birds were safe. When the worker was next to the cage, the engine suddenly stopped working. He hurried back to the engine room and found that the engines were no longer working. The ship was going to sink. Without a radio or any other way to ask for help, the people were very afraid. “You left your engines to take care of those pigeons when the ship was in trouble!” the angry captain said “I’m sorry, sir,” said the worker, “but the pigeons may bring us help. We can tie messages to their legs and send them back to New York.” “I don’t believe they can make it,” the captain said. “But they are our only hope. Let them fly out!”
