At first, the owners wanted to name it “Pequod,” afterthe ship in this novel. But they soon realized that it might not begood for a coffee house because no one would want to drink a cup of“Pee-quod,” which sounds dirty and disgusting. So they changed itto “Starbucks,” the name of the first member of the ship.   Theowners of Starbucks created their own way to run this coffee house.They made it a “home away from home” because they wantedcustomers to spend their time at this “third place” when they areneither at home or at work. They designed the stores with comfortablesurroundings and many benefits. All Starbucks have comfortable sofasfor relaxing and tables with chairs for working. Also, they providemultiple electrical outlets with free electricity for laptopcomputers and cell phones. Most stores evenhave free wireless Internet service. For fear that other smells wouldinterfere with the smell of the coffee, all Starbucks stores have anon-smoking policy and ask their employees not to wear strongperfumes.

Starbuckshas become so successful around the world because it has created afriendly, comfortable environment. It is a place where customers canrelax, work or just hang out with friends. They make a cup of coffeespecial.
