問題詳情
第四部分: 閱讀測驗 (第36-45題,每題2分,共10題) (36-38) Earthquakes are the shaking and moving of the ground when energy lets go in waves. These waves are seismic waves. They are like sea waves, but they move through the ground. Most earthquakes come from the movement of large pieces of the Earth’s crust, and we call them plates. Two plates meet at a fault. Faults look like large gaps in the ground. If the two plates meet and move in different ways, they build up energy at the fault line. When too much energy builds up, the ground starts to shake. More than 1,000,000 earthquakes occur in the world each year. But we can only feel about 100,000. Of these, only about 19 a year bring dangerous damage. Scientists still cannot predict when and where the next big one will hit. That is why it is important to prepare for it when you live in, or are visiting, an earthquake zone.
