Part III Reading Comprehension 閱讀理解
     Long time ago, Halloween was celebrated on the eve of November 1. People believed that Death and the dead would return to the earth and they would take people to hell with them. In order not to be taken away, people burned dead bodies and animals. Some people even wore masks and dressed like ghosts. It is why we always make up ourselves and wear like ghosts on Halloween. However, today people do that just for fun.
      There’s another interesting story about Halloween. Jack was a smart boy, and he wore like a ghost to played a trick on Death. He did it and Death didn’t take him to hell. Unluckily, after he died, he couldn’t go to heaven, and hell, either. Homeless Jack just walked around on earth. People made lanterns to protect him or light the road for him. However, these days, jack-o-lanterns are made to decorate classrooms and houses during Halloween.
