VI.Reading Comprehension      We’ve all heard of “payback” doing something bad to someone who has done something bad to you. However, what about paying it forward—being nice to others? Would it encourage (鼓勵) people to be nice to others, too?
     This idea came into Catherine Ryan Hyde’s head. If people start being nice to one another, kindness may spread (蔓延), and the world will become even better. As a writer, Ryan Hyde wrote a book to show how this could work, and the book was later made into a successful movie. Through the book and the movie, many people learned the idea of paying it forward and began practicing it.
     To spread the idea to the world, the Pay It Forward Foundation was started. It has teaching programs to help students learn about this idea. Many schools now carry out “Pay It Forward” projects to help others, especially the poor and the sick.
      The world today is still full of people who pay others back for what they did in the past. We should try to be nice to others more and “pay it forward.” Let’s hope the idea will become more popular in the near future.
