In Taiwan, it is common to see seats in dark blue on the MRT not being taken, even when the cars are full of people. That is because those seats are priority seats meant for pregnant woman, the elderly, or the disabled. But does that mean only these people can sit on them?
Not long ago, a woman took a picture of two senior high school students sitting on priority seats and posted the photo on her Facebook page. She thought it was wrong for them to take the seat and condemned them in public. She even said some dirty words about them.
People thought differently about the woman’s post. Some people thought priority seats were for those who really needed them, no matter what their age was. If the two students were tired and needed a seat, they could take it. Some people said that giving up a seat on the MRT should not be a must. If people did not want to give up their seat, it would be totally fine because it was their right. Some even said that there should not be priority seats at all because kind people would give up their seats even when they were not sitting on a priority seat.
Though people have different thoughts about priority seats, most of them do not think that the two high school students who took the priority seats should be treated badly. Doing something good makes the world a better place, but condemning others surely does not.
