問題詳情
Disney has made lots of movies since 1928 and its first movie, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, was released in 1937. After this, Disney made so many successful movies that most people in the world have seen at least one Disney movie. Several of children’s favorite movies are about love stories between princes and princesses. However, are the stories close to real life? A new study says that Disney movies send some wrong messages to children of different classes.
A study from Duke University says that Disney hides poor people’s problems in their movies. Take the seven dwarfs and Aladdin for examples. The dwarfs work as miners, but unlike the real miners in the real world, they only look happy in their lives. The story of Aladdin makes children think that it’s easy to become a rich person in one night. The study also points out that rich characters from the upper classes are unhappy, but the poor are always much happier.
Besides pointing out these problems with social classes in the movies, the study also has something to say about the lovestories between princes and princesses. It says that Snow White marries a rich prince after meeting him just once, but she never sees the seven dwarfs, who she sees more often, as romantic partners. They are the ones who keep waiting for her to wake up.
Some may argue that we should not take Disney movies too seriously because they are not real stories. However, we should also make sure that children don’t take anything for granted because of these stories.
