問題詳情

五、 閱讀測驗:請根據選項選擇一個最適當的答案。 1.         Being born in Taiwan, the kingdom of fruits, you might think that most fruits are nothing special. However, back in the 18th century, certain fruits such as pineapples were very valuable in Europe and the U.S. In the past, the pineapple was only for the rich and powerful, and some pineapple sellers would rent out (出租) pineapples to display (展示) at parties and sell them to rich people afterwards. In Scotland, there was even a pineapple-shaped house built in 1761 to celebrate this expensive, exotic fruit.   In Malaysia and Thailand, the durian, a kind of fruit that is considered stinky and strange-tasting, is celebrated at the durian festival. People often perform dances, and there are durian-eating competitions, parades (遊行), and markets to attract foreign visitors to their favorite fruit.    However, the strangest customs perhaps can be found in Japan. Some fruits, such as melons or pears, are grown in a carefully controlled environment and displayed with ribbons and gift tags. They are sold at high prices and served as valuable gifts to important people on special occasions.   The examples above show how valuable or unique certain fruits are considered in some countries. Next time you buy fruits, think about how other people think of these fruits and how much they are willing to pay for them!
