Although multitasking is widespread and accepted as common practice in the Internet era, some suspect that multitasking is harmful to our concentration and impairs our work efficiency. Research has proved them right.
The mind can only focus on one thing at a time. Although people believe they can multitask, the fact is that they only move the focus quickly from one thing to another. They cannot focus intently on all things simultaneously. Constant focus-shifting can be very tiring, and it can render them unable to complete tasks successfully. People have to focus on each task long and intently in order to produce desirable results.
True efficiency requires a concentrated mind. Paradoxically, before becoming a successful multitasker, a person should first learn to develop good concentration skills rather than simply thinking about how to work at many different things. When people can hold their minds for longer periods exclusively on one subject, they can reject unwanted thoughts, obtain greater inner peace, clear the mind of irrelevant thoughts, and focus their attention on the task at hand. Naturally, they can accomplish everything better. Not only that, the ability to concentrate also makes the mind flexible. When the occasion for multitasking arises, people with good concentration ability can swiftly switch their attention from one thing to another without the need for warm-up time.
Switch off those irrelevant 3C products and focus on your work at hand, and you will discover that you are becoming an excellent “tasker.”
