It is not a real cat,but a cat statue. The cat statue is the famous Maneki-neko, alucky thing from Japan. It is often believed that the Maneki-neko, or the lucky cat in English, brings good luck to peoplewho own it.Maneki-neko comes in different colors. White, black,and gold are the most common. Each means differently.White brings good luck, black gives good health and keepsbad things away, and gold invites money. You might evenfind a pink                    Maneki-neko, which is for those who want love.There are different stories about the origin of this luckycat. One goes like this. A long time ago in Japan, one day,as a king and his friends passed by a shabby temple, they sawa cat waving at them at the gate. Then they went in and meta monk, who owned the cat. The monk gave them tea todrink and talked to them. During the talk, the king washappy to learn some wise life lessons. He then gave thetemple large pieces of land to grow rice. The rice brought thetemple a lot of money. For people to remember the cat forbringing in the good luck, after it died, its statue with a raisedpaw was built.
