Travel Times                                    December 15, 1989
The Icehotel in Sweden is not like other hotels. The hotel is built from ice and snow from a nearby river. Beds, chairs, and tables are all made of blocks of ice. Even the floors are made of ice and snow.People who stay there sleep in special sleeping bags.
Because the hotel is made of ice, people who work there don’t have the same jobs as workers in other hotels, and the cooking has to be done in another building. When hotel workers clean up your room, they don’t mop the floor because it’s made of snow. They don’t clean the desk because there is no dust on ice. They don’t make the bed because it’s a sleeping bag. And they don’t wash the windows because there are no windows, just thick walls of ice. Only the people who work in the kitchen do normal jobs. They buy groceries, cook, and serve meals.
The hotel is usually open from December through April. In April, the weather starts to warm up and when the Icehotel starts to melt, it closes until sometime in December when the winter freezes the river and the Icehotel can be built anew.
