      Humans have tried to communicate with animals for a long time. People did that when theystarted to work with the animals, like horses or dogs. The animals, however, can’t really speak to us in our languages. Can we do something like teaching them how to speak our words? No! It’s impossible! We can teach them in another way: using a sign.
      Some scientists use different kinds of shapes for a gorilla. Each of them can stand for a word or a sentence. With that, the animal can communicate with us. Besides, because it’s hard for animals to learn our languages, people can learn theirs. Other scientists are trying to understand the sounds of dolphins, whales, or elephants. They record the sounds and study them. Perhaps one day people will get to know what these animals are thinking about.
